Course: GBDA 402 - Capstone 2
Roles:
Iteration 1: User Experience Designer
Iteration 2: Business Analyst
Iteration 3: Visual Designer
Accomplished: Human Centered Business Strategy, Visual Identity development
Team: Ainsley, Graeme, Mairi, Meg and I
Length: Ongoing!
The capstone project is focused around the number three Sustainable Development Goal of Health and Wellbeing.
The goal of the course is for students to “analyze markets, customers and consumers, in order to design and create digital products or services, to suit specific cultures or communities” using the Agile methodology
Three iterations, in each, the role we took on switched. Are the end of each iteration we had to submit a report and prototype of our progress.
Role: User Experience Design
With the agile methodology we had a single week to take the targets of the SDG, create a proposal for a digital product, find a team and create our first low fidelity prototype of the solution with a summary report
My contribution at this stage:
Role: Business Analyst
Taking the lead on business in this iteration I interviewed users to maintain a human centric approach to developing a business plan.
Using the strategy Canvas to map competitions and gaps in the industry. This gave us insight into how direct competitors were doing well and how that related to their success as well as where there were niches that could be explored and filled if it was valuable to the our customers.
The Impact Map was also a deliverable for the business role in this iteration, this map helped us map our how features of our app changed the behavior of actors (customers & consumers) to achieve our goal of increasing the health of children. This tool also led to ideating new features which have never been used by competitors.
My contribution at this stage:
Our iteration 2 report and prototype earned us a 98.89% grade
Role: Visual Designer
In our final iteration we focused on pulling together the business, and UX into a visually consistent and impactful design. While we had previous prototypes to build off, we created our final prototype using components and variations to maintain layout and asset consistency throughout.
Thinking about the entire customer journey we also developed a marketing plan for the outward expression of our business
So far my contribution at this stage:
- Designed the edit function of the app to be both user friendly and visually communicative
- Brought together all our feedback into a working (screen based) prototype to use in iteration 3 testing
- Coordinated between teams to ensure consistency and a unified final product
In the span of just under three months we applied the agile methodology to digital development to develop an app which could use information logging data to give parents insights into improving their children’s health and reduce the stress put on parents by providing a central hub for important information all while making children healthier!
Our digital solution would use data in an actionable way, and encorporate the entire parenting ecosystem to include health professionals, babysitters and secondary caregivers into child care more actively.
Feel free to try out the prototype and watch our final presentation!
